VMI Head Women's Soccer Coach, BRPA Camp Director
Chris Bergmann

Coach Bergmann comes to Virginia Military Institute after six years as the head coach at Lake Forest College in Lake Forest, Ill. There, he coached the school's men's team to back to back conference championships in 2012 and 2013 and earned Midwest Conference Coach of the Year honors both years. After the second of those championships, he took his team to the NCAA Championship Tournament for the first time since 1981. Prior to working at Lake Forest, Bergmann was an assistant coach for the women's program at Northwestern University for the 2008 season, where he helped the team to a quarterfinal berth in the Big 10 Tournament. Bergmann has 19 years of coaching experience at the college (NCAA DI, DIII, NAIA), high school, ODP and club levels.

W&L Assistant Men's Soccer Coach, BRPA Lead Coach
Jon Freeman

Coach Freeman has been involved with collegiate soccer at the DI, DII and DIII ranks. He served as Head Men’s Soccer coach at DII Ashland University ’10-’13 and at Ferrum College in '09. He was the women’s and men’s assistant at Ashland from ’04-’08. During his tenure there, the men’s and women’s teams combined to win four Conference Championships and three trips to the NCAA Championship Tournament with a NCAA Elite Eight appearance for the women in ’04. While an assistant at Radford University (‘00-‘04) the men’s team won a Big South Conference Championship and a berth in the NCAA Play-In. Most recently Coach Freeman is the assistant men's soccer coach at Washington and Lee University where his wife, Dana is the Head Track and Field Coach.

Kelly Bergmann

Kelly Bergmann works with husband Chris as an Assistant coach for the Women's Soccer program at VMI. Previously, Kelly was the head women’s soccer coach at Hope International University in Fullerton, California, where she was named NCCAA West Region Coach of the Year in 2005. She was also an assistant women’s soccer coach and head softball coach at Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois, for two years and led the softball team to the 2007 NCCAA National Tournament. Kelly has 13 years of coaching experience at the college, high school, middle school and club levels. Kelly is also currently on staff at Rockbridge Church as the Children's Ministry Director.

The Chesterfield, Missouri, native was a dual-sport collegiate student-athlete playing soccer and softball at Wheaton College (Ill.) and graduating with bachelors degrees in communications and educational formation. She was a part of the 2001 NCAA DIII National Championship Final Four soccer team and co-captained the 2001 Wheaton softball team. She stayed on while a graduate student at Wheaton as an assistant softball coach and earned a masters degree in educational formation in 2003.

Bergmann has played and coached internationally with the Chicago Eagles Soccer Club and Southern California Seahorses in Brazil, Holland, Sweden, and Mexico.

VMI Asst. W. Soccer Coach
Daniella Pappas

Pappas comes to VMI after spending two seasons at Davidson College, where she worked with the Wildcat goalkeepers and assisted with the day-to-day operations of the team.
Prior to that, she had spent a year in her home state of Iowa at Ashford University in Clinton, where she helped the women's soccer program to a nine-win season and the school's third straight Association of Independent Institutions (AII) title game appearance. Pappas tutored the team's keepers to eight shutouts and a 1.15 GAA. Freshman goalkeeper Nyla Peterkin was named to the A.I.I. honorable mention after starting 19 of 20 games and earning all eight shutouts to go with 72 saves.

Pappas spent the 2013 season as an assistant coach at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, N.C. During the 2013 season, Belmont Abbey was ranked 3rd in the Southeast Region, while earning an NCAA berth and a Sweet 16 finish. Goalkeeper Hannah Kohls was named all-conference first-team, Conference Carolinas Scholar Athlete of the Year, NSCAA All Scholar Southeast Region and NSCAA All Southeast Region under Pappas' direction.

Also during her year in North Carolina, Pappas was the head coach of a U13 traveling girls team through the Carolina Rapids organization. She was also part of the coaching staff for the U10 youth academy program.

Prior to moving to Belmont Abbey, Pappas was a graduate assistant at University of Central Missouri where she coached under Lewis Theobald.

Pappas earned a masters degree in special education at Central Missouri.
